12 Built-In-Bra Tanks, Ranked By A Physical Therapist (Only One Got An A)

A thirty-day comparison test across every "built-in bra" tank sold online over $20. Judged on cup construction, strap width, washability, and whether it still looks worn-in-not-worn-out at day thirty.

Methodology Twelve "built-in bra" tanks were ordered off Amazon, Target, Shapermint, and three Shopify brands over $20. Each was worn 10 hours per day for three days, machine-washed on hot once a week for four weeks, and photographed at day 1, day 15 and day 30. Grades reflect cup construction (40%), strap & neckline (20%), wash durability (25%), and fit after 30 days (15%).

Why #1 got an A

What separated the Freeform Tank from the other eleven

  • 1
Cups were actually sewn into the lining — not a loose foam pad in a pocket. The other eleven all used some version of the pocket design. Nine of them had a visibly folded or migrated pad by day 15.
  • 2
No elastic band around the ribcage. The lift came from the stitched-in cup carried by the shoulder straps, so there was no compression line at day 30.
  • 3
Straps measured two inches flat. Four of the twelve had straps under 1½" that cut visible grooves within a day. Shoulder dig is non-negotiable past 60.
  • 4
Cup shape held through thirty hot washes. The pocket-pad designs lost shape by week two. The Freeform cups came out of each cycle looking identical to day one.
  • 5
Pull-on construction, no clasp. Half of my patients post-60 can't fasten a conventional clasp. The Freeform tank goes on over the head in two seconds.
