Weight Loss · A Reader Diary

I lost 44 pounds on Mounjaro. My bras betrayed me.

A nine-month weight-loss diary from a 51-year-old GLP-1 patient — and the one piece of clothing nobody warned me would stop working. If you are shrinking out of your bras right now, this is the entry I wish I had read in month three.

The stack I stopped wearing — eleven bras in nine months.

Nobody tells you this part.

They tell you about the nausea in week two. They tell you about the "food noise" going quiet. They tell you your face is going to change and you should buy moisturizer. They tell you to lift weights so you don't lose muscle. My endocrinologist is a saint and she told me all of it.

Nobody told me what would happen to my chest. And nobody told me what would happen to every single bra in my drawer.

By month three I was reaching behind my back and the band had rotated. By month six I was safety-pinning cups to keep them flat. By month nine I had an eleven-bra pile on the closet floor and nothing to wear under a t-shirt.

I started Mounjaro in February at 198 pounds and a 38DD. I am writing this at 154 pounds and a 34C. I lost two full band sizes and a cup and a half, and I had no idea that was a thing that happened.

This is the diary I kept. Four entries, four photos, one piece of clothing that saved me in month seven.

Month One1
Down 11 pounds. Everything still fit. I was wrong.February 24 · 187 lbs
Starting: 38DD

Week four of Mounjaro and everything "fit." I put fit in quotes because at week four I was riding the first-month high and I would have called a shoe box a dress if it meant I could keep the scale moving.

Looking back at the photos from that month, the band was already loose. I just didn't notice it yet. The reading on the hook was still the same hook, so my brain said: fine. The soft tissue hadn't started going yet. The feeling of weight loss at month one is almost entirely in the face and the belly. The chest comes later, and when it comes, it comes fast.

Month Three3
Down 24 pounds. The band is rotating. Everything hurts in a new way.April 18 · 174 lbs
Measured: 36D, nothing in my drawer is a 36D

Month three was the first month I thought: oh. Something has shifted.

I reached behind my back one morning to clasp a bra I had worn to work twice a week for four years and the clasp met in a place it had never met before. There was a lot more band than there used to be. I pulled it on the tightest hook and it rotated during my first meeting — the back wandering up between my shoulder blades, the front dropping. I spent the day tugging. I spent the day angry.

That night I measured. 36D. I did not own a 36D. Everything in my drawer was a 38DD, which was now, apparently, two sizes too big in two different directions.

What I didn't know yet. GLP-1 weight loss drops breast tissue faster than almost anywhere else on the body because breast tissue is mostly fat. The band loosens, the cup empties, and the whole bra loses the shape it was engineered around. Rebuying bras every eight weeks is the only honest answer, and nobody can afford it.

Month Six6
Down 38 pounds. Safety pins. I bought a sports bra and it also stopped working.July 29 · 160 lbs
Measured: 34C, and getting smaller

By month six I was safety-pinning cups to keep them from pulling away from my chest when I bent forward. I had bought a cheap sports bra at Target to tide me over, worn it twice, and watched the band stretch out past the point of elastic recovery. I washed it on cold. It still gave up.

I started wearing camisoles over the ill-fitting bras to hide the cup gape under t-shirts. On the days I didn't have an audience I stopped wearing a bra entirely and found I didn't need one — I had lost enough tissue that the support I thought I was buying had become support I didn't need.

But I still looked wrong in a t-shirt. The gap was gone. The nipple shape was there. I am 51 and I was not interested in that answer.

I needed something between a bra and nothing. I didn't know that was a product category until my cousin texted me a photo.
Month Seven7
The tank. My cousin's text. The thing that finally worked.August 11 · 158 lbs

My cousin lost 60 pounds on Zepbound last year. She is five years ahead of me on all of this. In the middle of my month-six safety-pin phase she sent me a photo of a soft pale-blue tank — a camisole with the shaped cups sewn into the lining — and typed:

"You are shrinking. You need something that shrinks with you. Try this."

I ordered one. It arrived in four days. I put it on and the cup was flat against my chest, the band wasn't there to rotate, and the straps weren't digging because I had lost the shoulder softness that used to catch them. I wore it to a dinner that week and realized at 10 PM I had not thought about my bra once.

I ordered the three-pack the next morning. I have been wearing them for ten weeks now.

Month Nine9
Down 44 pounds. 34C. One drawer. Three tanks.October 29 · 154 lbs

This is the entry I wish I had been able to read in month three.

I am down 44 pounds, 34C on paper and smaller on a measuring tape, and the thing I own now is three tanks and nothing else. I will not go back to the band and the clasp. I will not spend $75 on a bra I will outgrow in six weeks.

Every GLP-1 patient I have met in the group chat is quietly dealing with the same thing and quietly spending money they shouldn't be spending on bras they are about to outgrow. Someone had to write this entry. I am writing it.

If you are reading this at month three, do what I didn't do. Stop buying bras. Buy one tank with the cups sewn in. Wear it on your worst-fitting day. You will understand within forty minutes.

★★★★★ 11,482 verified reviews
As low as £14.55 a tank with the three-pack
  • Shaped cups stitched into the lining — not a loose foam pad. Shrinks with you instead of rotating.
  • No band, no wire, no clasp — the three things that stopped working for me first.
  • Two-inch flat straps — won't dig into shoulder softness you don't have anymore.
  • Six colours, S through 3XL — the smaller sizes run true to GLP-1 goal weights.

If you are shrinking right now and nothing in your drawer fits, I am sorry nobody warned you. Nobody warned me either. Try one. If it doesn't work, send it back. If it does, you'll know on the first wear.Rachel Monroe · Phoenix, AZ

A note on the reader offerThe Buy 3 Get 2 Free pack is what I would order if I were starting again at month three. You will want a clean one in the drawer most days — and GLP-1 shrinking tends to keep going.
